Making it up as I go

This is the preparatory drawing for a new painting that will be part of the exhibition I'm having later this year.  I made a rough thumbnail sketch, then started drawing onto the timber panel, letting it evolve as I drew.  I hope I can keep the same feel when I paint it.

New Paints.

So for my next big paintings I'm swapping my trusty acrylic gouaches for some beautiful Golden acrylics (big shout out to Luke at St. Luke Artist Colourmen). Over the weekend I made this little piece in a getting-to-know-my new-paints session. Then I gave it to my friend for her birthday.
